Walk-in care or emergency room? Where should I go?

You Have Options

When accidents and injuries happen, it has the potential to interrupt schedules and put a strain on finances.

In many cases, going to a walk-in or urgent care clinic for treatment is faster and more cost-effective than going to an emergency room. If you go to a specialized walk-in clinic like one of Bone & Joint’s locations, you also have the benefit of receiving care from providers who specialize in the type of injury or symptoms you or your family member is experiencing, which leads to a successful recovery.

You can ride in your neighborhood or choose to use the miles and miles of trails winding through Wisconsin’s natural areas. These gravel or asphalt paths keep you off the main roads as you enjoy the surroundings.

If you’d rather bike to work, many cities and towns in our state have added dedicated lanes for safer travel from place to place.

But is cycling the best exercise for your bones?

Cycling offers some excellent cardiovascular health benefits.

Stay safe and sound this hunting season

In Wisconsin, fall is the season for hunting. And the two go together like Cheeseheads and the Green Bay Packers. Take care and stay safe this hunting season.

Hunting is not for everyone. But those who take part are dedicated to the sport. It’s tradition. Hunters plan and prepare for months before the season opener. Scouting out the best spots. Constructing hunting blinds. And airing out clothing to remove all human scent.

Surprisingly, even though the sport of hunting uses equipment designed for deadly force, […]

Use Fireworks Safely. Stay Independent this Fourth of July

Estimated Reading Time 3 Minutes

Fireworks and the 4th of July go together like brats and buns.

But, lighting the sky up at home has its risks.

An explosive injury can lead to the loss of independence and, in worse-case scenarios, the loss of life.

According to the National Safety Council, 17 people died, and more than 12,000 people were injured by fireworks in 2017. Half of those injured were under 20 years of age.

Even the most “harmless” of types cause injury. Firecrackers cause nearly a fifth of […]

Your back may be hurting for many reasons. Sitting too long, missing a step, or lifting a heavy object can twist your muscles and take a toll on your back. Eight out of ten people experience spinal pain at some point in their lives.

The good news is that 95 percent of the time, back pain will improve without medical treatment. But if your pain is severe, persistent and limiting, it’s in your best interest to see a physician and check it out.

Can you improve bone health at any age?

Did you ever do the experiment where you placed a chicken bone or an egg in a glass of vinegar and let it sit overnight? Do you remember what happened? The next day the chicken bone bent like a piece of licorice, and the eggshell was soft. The acidity of the vinegar drew out all the minerals.

That’s what happens to a lesser extent in our bones. Our bodies try to balance acidic, alkaline, and mineral levels to keep running smoothly.

It’s one reason a healthy bone-building diet is so important.

How can I make my bones stronger?

Your […]

Why do my feet swell?

There may be many reasons. First, it IS summer in Wisconsin, and that means heat, humidity, and swollen feet.

Just ask Janice. It was a hot July day. Janice and her family went to the beach. She played with the kids in the lake, enjoyed a picnic lunch, and just enjoyed relaxing on the beach blanket in the warm sunshine. But by day’s end, Janice’s feet had swollen too much to fit into her shoes.

Fortunately, like most weather-related swelling, Janice’s swollen feet were a temporary condition.

Why do our feet swell in hot weather?

The body is amazing […]
